Confirmed from Mt Bliss: Van Tassel Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Mt Bliss: Van Tassel Trailhead
Completed this hike in 5 hours. I did stop to take pictures. This was a challenging addition in my journey. We hiked 5 miles uphill, then about 5 1/2 on the way back to the car. It was a gloomy morning but perfect weather for the climb.
Great conditioning hike with easy access. Steady climb with great views of Mt San Antonio and Gorgonio. Not crowded. Hike on wide access roads to power lines
Steep hike that is great for the family! With wide trails and plenty of scenery to go around.
Did a short hike to the lookout after work late afternoon. There is a parking lot close by that is just a small dirt lot. Not far from the trail start. No one was around on the trail Saturday late afternoon. Lots of bugs that bite so bring bug spray and water too to hydrate.
Trail conditions & character
“Steep, and not a lot of shade, but a great workout with spectacular views.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
