Confirmed from Mt Tam's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Mt Tam

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (245 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“It's very beautiful and scenic there are also some short trails that you can enjoy with a view and the best part is the trails are also kids friendly :)”

👟 good for all levels 3 mentions

“Beautiful views, rolling hills with easy trails, clean air.”

Make sure you bring cash for parking and you'll be good. The hile to the top is only .3 miles. Great place to visit for some great views. The trail is fairly easy. My 4 year old daughter did it without help.

This is a great place to go on a leisurely hike, a date, a casual meeting spot. There’s no restaurants near by so bring your own food and drink. I guarantee you will not be disappointed with the views from up here!!! *as long as it is a clear day*

Absolutely AMAZING views from here. This particular circular hiking path is entirely paved so it is extremely accessible for folks walking with a cane or in a wheelchair or who just want an easy hike with views for miles and miles.

The most beautiful and amazing views of the Bay Area you will find. Hike up to the Gardner's shack and look south. On a clear day you can look back at the coastline. This is a must see!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
