Confirmed from National Elk Refuge's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about National Elk Refuge
“We had the chance to drive past the stunning landscape of the National Elk Refuge, a vital wildlife conservation area located in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.”
We came to the Refuge in July, so it was definitely not the right time of year to see Elk. Nevertheless, the park is still stunning. You can drive, cycle, run, or rent a side by side to travel through the park. We saw people doing all of the above. We saw a coyote, some birds, and an amazing sunset.
Nice little setup inside. Very clean and very polite/helpful employees. It has a nice little gift shop and has the stamps for the journey and passport collection books. Very beautiful outside view. Telescope to see the Elk way out in the fields. 10-15 min walk thru.
This place is truly one of a kind, it’s so beautiful and there’s wildlife everywhere. You never know what’s gonna be out there. Great for a hike or a nice walk, you really get to see the natural beauty of Jackson Hole!
Entry was from East Broadway Rd about a mile from Jackson downtown area. The elks seem to have gone (up the hills) for the spring summer when I arrived (May 12th), but there's still goats (rams?) and some animals scurrying about. What was enjoyable for me was the view as I drive up the road.
