We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of North Branch Trail South End at Gompers Park yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about North Branch Trail South End at Gompers Park
This is one of my favourite trail for cycling in Chicago. It is long, you can get to Skokie Lagoons, botanical garden and even farther to the north. Miles and miles of fun. Usually not crowded. I like it during the summertime.
To continue east from the NBT to the lake, I recommend ending a bit early/heading back to LaBagh Woods (.5 miles up from here), taking the gravel rail road bridge north to Bryn Mawr, taking Bryn Mawr to the channel, taking the channel south to Lawrence, dropping down to Wilson through Ravenswood gardens and heading…
This trail is amazing. You can travel roughly from Foster and Kedzie all the way to around Devon and Harlem. The entire time you ride along endless parks, and a short bike ride down Foster connects to River Park bike trail, which also goes on forever.
Lovely views and a nice smooth trail! Only a couple of busy road crossings and they all have stoplights and crosswalks.
