Confirmed from North Forty Natural Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about North Forty Natural Area

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (23 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

This was a perfect nature walk for my family. It was long enough to seem somewhat rigourous, but not a full blown hike. It is definitely a sanctuary for wildlife with song birds everywhere. In many parts it seemed very expansive with no end to the wilds in sight. a lovely place and not crowded at all.

★★★★★ — James , Apr 2020

Tucked into the many wide open spaces of Floyd Bennett Field is this maze of wide grass paths with access to deserted beaches and some abandoned structures. Nothing mind blowingly pretty, but very quiet and fun to explore.

If you want to reach there by walk don’t take the forest! Easy way is find the parking lot for paddling and fishing, and just go to shore and there you wishing place is in front of you! Police said that place is not safe for evening after 6pm. Beware!

I started my hike at the HARP museum and walked the trail for about 1.5 miles in search of abandoned ruins . This is what I encountered. It was a bit crazy walking down a entire runway in the end .

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
