Confirmed from Oakhurst Forest Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
This large marsh with lake offers wildlife viewing, fishing, picnic areas, a boat launch & trails.
What runners say about Oakhurst Forest Preserve
“Huge forest preserve featuring a trail that loops around the lake, a trail up the sledding hill for elevation and beautiful views, and more rugged trails through the woods.”
Lots of fun trails that are short and sweet. Lots of shade to rest if needed. Outdoor bathrooms are pretty good for a Forest Preserve. Lots of parking, 2 pavilions, outdoor grill, fireplace, lots of picnic benches all around the lake and near parking.
This place has a lot of things to do here. There walking trails you can ride a bike on the trails. You can go fishing have a picnic there. You can hangout with your friends. Everyone who is in the area should diffently check it out.

Wow, I was here last winter and lots of improvements to the FP since then. A new boat launch with dock and a ramp for ADA but there is not an AZA easy launch. New pavilion and a short viewing area over the lake. Some trails got paved to asphalt, added some info sign kiosks and a huge pavilion with table underneath.

Plan your run at Oakhurst Forest Preserve
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
