Confirmed from Old Harbor Wildlife Refuge's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Old Harbor Wildlife Refuge

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (16 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“Well kept paths, clearly marked, with a light grade.”

Fun place to adventure! There is a hidden geocache but could not find it. Parking lot probably fits 3 cars max so it is not overly populated. A bit muddy in some areas but overall a nice hike. Will be going back!

★★★★★ — Kelli , Feb 2022

Great hike, very woodsy, wish there was a water view. Got very muddy & over grown on the blue trail.

★★★★☆ — Queen , May 2023

Old harbor wildlife refuge is just under 3 miles running all the trails. Single track was fun and runnable. The double track was partially frozen and very uneven with tractor tracks. May try again in the summer. I think the trails could have been better marked.

★★★★☆ — Mary , Jan 2018

This is a very relaxing place to hike in. The trails are well maintained and it is fun stroll through the woods between Old Harbor Road, where you park, and River Road.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
