We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Old Tunnel State Park yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
3 million bats emerge from an old railroad tunnel at select times in this park with a trail.
What runners say about Old Tunnel State Park
“Lots of wildlife and beautiful plants, we had a great view of the bats flying around inside the tunnel from the little bridge.”
We almost didn’t stop here since the bat viewing parties were over, but so glad we did. It’s a small, 16 acre park with beautiful trails and a few deer. We also saw bats flying around in the tunnel when viewed with binoculars. The bird viewing area had lots of activity. Would love to come back to see the bats emerge.
It's a nice little park. Has a couple of small trails. Good for young kids or just a leisurely stroll. I came in the off season so no bats are or were around. There is some construction going on at the moment so the restrooms aren't working. And there is no ranger on site.
I went to see the bats at the end of October. It was a bit late as many of them had already started heading south, but it was still a cool experience. Ranger Izzy is awesome and the short hike around the park is fun!
Honeymooned with my husband near here and we walked the entire trail in the morning and it was absolutely amazing. Lots of wildlife and beautiful plants, we had a great view of the bats flying around inside the tunnel from the little bridge. Would highly recommend.

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.

- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
