Confirmed from Orange Heritage Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Orange Heritage Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (23 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Clean, flat and paved trail for walking, running and biking. This is a rejuvenated railway. Seating areas and restrooms can be found along this scenic trail.

Started at Masons Market and walked towards Dolsontown Rd - I prefer the other direction but this made a change (it would be good on a bike) the path goes under Route 84 so you can hear the traffic a ways beforehandThere is another small parking spot halfway way there.

★★★★☆ — Graham , Apr 2023

Great Rail Trail! With the 2 newer sections at each end now 18.5 miles. Portable toilets at a number of locations along the trail. Also a number of bike repair stations. The only issue is that the trail disappears in Goshen with no information posted on how to navigate to the other trail section.

Nice paved path for a quick dog walking. There is parking here for 4 or five cars / and most spots were taken but we have a small car so we squeezed in. Not sure if our pup picked up any ticks here but we did find some on her later / but they could have been from a previous stop not sure.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
