Fun place to hike. Beautiful scenery. The glory hole overlook was kind of a let down. Not much else to see there and the side trail was a bit rough. The main trail was in good shape and well maintained. Well worth the effort. Generally up hill most of the way in though hardly any of it was extremely steep.
Trailhead is about 30 mins from cruise terminal. If you pass the house with a sign saying "Too many tourists. Go home" you're on the right track. Trails are clearly marked, not too challenging for regular hikers, and are sturdy enough for rain.
Very nice trails. We enjoy the old mining equipment, the creek, the mining camp, and all the views. We walked quite aways before turning back. Just to think it was Alaska's first road! I hope it was maintained and smoothed out a little!
Due to our helicopter excursion being cancelled cause of low clouds, we went on this amazing hike! You really need to be there to witness the gorgeous views. The hike is a steady up hill, you will need to take your time. It was a little over 6 miles all together.
