Confirmed from Piedmont Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Piedmont Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (110 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 10 mentions

“Easy access location if staying in Duluth, nicely groomed, trails are for skiing only, beautiful scenery mostly surrounded by forest and protected from wind.”

This is one of our favorite cross country ski trails. Mostly classic with two sets of tracks through much of the way. There's a great view of St. Louis Bay and the harbor from the top of the hill. Mostly green and easy blue runs with a couple fun black loops for a little more challenge.

★★★★★ — Jim , Oct 2018

Best mountain biking in Duluth for those with a lot of experience. There are easy trails at piedmont but the best ones with the most jumps and features you definitely need experience and a good MTB.

★★★★★ — Zane , Sep 2024

Great trails for everyone, bikers, hikers and walking a dog. Beautiful views to see

★★★★★ — Mike , Nov 2019

Lovely classic Nordic ski trails with decent directions …. MOST of the time. The exception in Jan 2023 is no directional signage at map points A and B (intersections). Be careful there. We know the trails now since we did them an extra time. GPS localization is iffy so don’t rely on it.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
