I visited Pioneer Park on a classic Olympia gray moist early autumn morning for the first time this October day. There were trails leading out into the forest and then following the Deschutes River. There were sections that were particularly grand with three canopies overhead.
What I love the most: SO close to home. 15-min drive to well-maintained non-asphalt trails through wood and along the Deschutes river. What I don't love: In spite of signs stating dogs must be leashed, you'll need to watch for untethered canine friends running ahead of (away from) their human friends.
This is one of my favorite places to go. There are many beaches to walk to and more you can float to. This is a great place to start a float down to Brewery park (formerly known as Tumwater Falls park) and exit. The water is super clean and refreshingly cool. Pets are allowed on leashes and it's kid friendly.
A sprawling wooded area with many interweaving walking paths also fun for bike riding with Dirt, Stoney, and Paved along some paths. Many fantastic spots by the river that's goes through it. A large Field area, a Playground, and... a baseball diamond or 2 i believe. One of my favorite parks to visit for walks.
