Confirmed from Pioneer Trail Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Scenic, family-friendly and pet-friendly outdoor hangout featuring hiking paths and a suspension bridge.
What runners say about Pioneer Trail Trailhead
“Absolutely stunning views, paired with trails, a river to fish, excellent bird watching possibilities, and rustic cabins for rent.”
“Very easy walking on the paved trail with no steep hills to negotiate.”
Beautiful, easy hike along well defined trail. Both sides of the trail are stunning. There's a short loop that allows you to see both sides of the creek by crossing on a suspended bridge. Or you can do the long walk and walk a figure 8 by crossing the suspended bridge twice.
A great little trail, mostly flat, but with some nice views. I went out to the stone bridge and back, doing a figure 8 (exuse to do the swinging bridge twice) and my GPS was at 4.3 miles.
The short loop pioneer trail is truly a gem. It is a narrow trail through dense woods with views of the lake and some surprising rock formations. The back end of the loop is far enough that it is totally free of noise pollution.
Bandit - The Adventure Dog loves the trails at Cumberland County park. We hike them along.

“Many protruding rocks and roots, so older visitors better be in good shape and careful.”

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
