Confirmed from Point Alta Vista Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Really nice way to access Royal Gorge trails or just for a short hike for an awesome view into the canyon. Thank you to RGRR for allowing access across their property.

Cool use of old existing rail bed and trestles Nice easy 1 mile out and back

We loved the hike it is an easy hike. The views were spectacular! The one downside is the safety issue of the boards on the wood bridges. I caught my toe a few times because the boards are spaced a few inches apart. My daughter caught the side of her shoe in one of the gaps, rolled her ankle and fell down.

Perfect place to hike with kids or families. This trail is 1.1 miles each way (2.2 out-and-back). It is a natural-surface trail but is wide and doesn't have much elevation gain/loss. Dogs may not like the trestles, but the view from the end of the trail (Point Alta Vista) is incredible.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
