Confirmed from Portage Hike & Bike Trail Franklin Connector's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“One of my favorite places to run, the trail is well maintained.”

Great section of the extensive Portage Hike & Bike Trail. Mostly flat, with a few significant elevation changes, primarily at road intersections. Wide, casual multi-use trail. I believe the entire trail from this trailhead on North is now fully paved.

★★★★★ — George , Jul 2016

The trail has a few spots where the pavement is a little bumpy, however they are marked with blue paint.

★★★★☆ — Raymond , Aug 2017

Beautiful trail to cut off some miles on the road. Worked nicely for stealth camping as well!

★★★★★ — Michael , Jun 2016

A very large trail that is accessible throughout multiple places in Portage. It goes along the river in places. It is very beautiful as well as paved, so it is accessible for bikes, wheelchairs, scooters. I don't think there are many stairs, if there are any at all.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
