Confirmed from Poston Butte Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Poston Butte Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (86 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 10 mentions

“From there, it takes about 20-30 minutes to ascend up the butte- and you are treated to beautiful bird's-eye views of the surrounding farmland and streets.”

👟 good for all levels 4 mentions

“The trail does have loose rocks, so take your time going down; I will say as someone who fears going downhill, this trail is beginner friendly and is not steep or scary going down.”

Nice short Hike, about a 1/2 mile. Lots of lava rock on the way up that can be loose under your feet. Two different ways up, first is more direct and the other wraps out into the desert. The pyramid on top off this butte is the tomb of Charles Poston . Great view through out this hike.

Very close location to Florence and surrounding cities, not many people visit these trails and typically parking lot has only 3 maybe 4 cars at most. There are more trails here than I thought, you don't have to hike up the butte though the view is nice especially when overcast.

This was a great little hike and the view at the top was beautiful. We had the opportunity to watch the sunset. Quite a treat!

Beautiful hike. Pretty steep and lots of loose rocks so be sure to wear good hiking boots. There is one switch back so there is a nice look out in two spots. It was about a mile hike round trip so very short. But it was very steep.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
