Confirmed from Prairie Trail Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Prairie Trail Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (11 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Love how beautiful the area is when on this trail. It's located out on the prairie. You go between fields at the beginning of your start at Meyer road. But as you head into town you will go past Lots of development areas. It takes you down through CDA and by the Spokane River.

★★★★★ — Jamisue , Sep 2023

A faster method to and from Post Falls. Unlike Centennial which hugs I-90 going between PF and CDA, or the more scenic Spokane River trail they’re constructing in the new Atlas Mill Park, the Prairie Trail is a straight shot and relatively level all the way to Kathleen, where it then descends as you head toward the…

★★★★★ — A , Jul 2020

Be aware, some of the reviews relate to the portion that starts at Huetter (about a half mile east). At the point where the trails end into Meyer there is no parking. Eventually the trail will connect across Prairie and lead past Peak Fitness to the trail that runs along Highway 41.

★★★★☆ — C , Aug 2025

I love this trail but fair warning! This is a means to an end, all in all it’s a boring walk/bike until you hit centennial trail. From centennial trail it goes along the lake and into downtown CdA, just follow the trail across Atlas and then across Kathleen and keep going straight.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“Only real complaint is irresponsible dog owners who dont pick up after their pets.”

  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
