Confirmed from Preservation Park, South Fayette's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Preservation Park, South Fayette
“Location is a relatively scenic area.”
Really great, mostly flat, paved walkway. It's a half mile loop, so you can regulate how far you want to go by how many trips around you take. It's not unusual for dog owners to have their dogs off leash at times, so have some readiness for that.
Pretty nice overall vibe. I have walked and made laps around the walking path multiple times. I would rate this place pretty high on the laid-back scale. In typical Pittsburgh area fashion you feel out in the country only 15 minutes from downtown. Preservation Park is located in the Oakdale/Renerdale suburb area.
This is a nice park that has soccer areas in the middle for the kids to practice with their coaches. It also has a paved half mile track around the outside of the grassy area. It is mostly flat with a few slopes, but not crazy. I heard it gets very busy when the weather warms up.
We love Preservation Park, for soccer the top fields are the best. Hopefully they can figure out the bottom field drainage issues soon. The walking trail around the whole park is easy and great for dogs too.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
