Confirmed from Raccoon Mountain Mtb Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park, featuring hiking and mountain-biking trails plus scenic views and a visitor center.
What runners say about Raccoon Mountain Mtb Trail
“Absolutely beautiful views of the Tennessee River gorge, and really awesome mountain bike trails!”
Great fun trail with beautiful scenes. Beginner MTBers might have a bit of trouble, but overall it was great to ride the trails.
Raccoon mountain is what I think of when I think of an example of what mountain biking is supposed to be. It feels raw, it feels a bit remote, has a large climb followed by a long descent, and a good mix of chunk, flow, and some spots you’re most likely going to hike your bike.
Absolutely beautiful views of the Tennessee River gorge, and really awesome mountain bike trails!! Complete with a visitor center that explains the history of one of the most unique hydroelectric power stations in the world.
Great scenery and fun hikes. Trails are not marked, so it is a challenge to know which one you're on, and not get lost. It was free to hike and see the visitor's center. Definitely recommend checking it out!
Trail conditions & character
“The top part of the trail was nice and flowy, maybe there is a loop where you can park up top and stay in that area and still get some awesome views.”
“Great climb, technical rock section and fast and flowing downhill with great scenery.”

“We brought our two small dogs with us and kept them on their leash for part of the hike but they were fine off the leash once we got further into the trail.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
