Absolutely gorgeous. The rattlesnake trail proper begins along the stream and continues to follow it for much of the rattlesnake trail, with a couple beautiful crossings and some pools deep enough for a dip but careful its 🥶! This is a steep raparian trail that starts at Skofield Park, Rattlesnake Canyon trail winds through a canyon with an often flowing creek, even in summer months. The trail is mostly shaded and is ideal for children and canines.
Very accessible hike from downtown Santa Barbara. The hike is relatively easy with some areas of moderate incline, the tail was dirt with large rocks. If you are not planning to hike the Tunnel trail or Gibraltar, you can easily do this hike in tennis shoes. Only downside is that there is some graffiti on the trails.
Challenging, two people left on a stretcher within my time of visiting- one with a broke knee cap and the other with a badly twisted ankle. Perfectly shaded with some sun, definitely bring a full water bottle. Views from the top are worth the climb :)
