Confirmed from Ray M. Schon Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Kids' space with a playground, a pond for fishing and geese, as well as walking trails.
What runners say about Ray M. Schon Park
“Nice and clean restrooms next to the playground and plenty of seating.”
“Beautiful park with paved trails that connect to Madison County Trails, at the very west end of park.”
“Super fun park, no shade but still excellent and close to the parking lot!”
Great walking trails, nature trails and bike trails. Beautiful scenery. Benches.
I usually will stop by and make a few cast before heading home. The park is nice and quiet with people walking the trails. I have caught some nice bass and bluegill. Although it says crappie is in there I had never caught any...until Tuesday. Couldn't believe the pond had anything in there that size.
Such a good walking trail. You can stay on the circle around the pond or go deeper into the woods for a nature walk. Very pet friendly and good amount of seating for picnic or get-togethers. There is also a nearby playground for kids. Stroller friendly.
Love these trails. Well kept, beautiful scenery, smooth walking surface!! Super fun park, no shade but still excellent and close to the parking lot!! They added lots of picnic tables which is fabulous! (3/2023)
Trail conditions & character
“Like every other park around here there is a problem with off leash dogs and owners not picking up after them and letting them harass wildlife.”

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
