Confirmed from Red Rocks Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“It’s an easy walk/hike with a bit of elevation, good for walking and talking.”

Beautiful walk through the trees on a dirt path with gorgeous views of Lake Champlain at the end. We were there on a Friday afternoon in July and there weren't many people. We had most of the trail to ourselves.

★★★★★ — David , Jul 2021

Great park, has easy trails to enjoy a nice walk through a beautiful park. Fairly busy with quite a few people hiking but not too much to where you can't enjoy it alone at times.

We parked at start of trail and walked down towards the beach first. It's a short hike mostly down hill with a pinic table near water. We spent a good amount of time on the beach.

★★★★☆ — John , Jun 2023

Nice sized park, more like a hiking forest. Dense with tall trees so you get that "away" feel even though it's nearby to Burlington. Large enough that you can wander around and hike for a good amount of time, if desired. Main trails are not well marked, but the lake is intermittently visible to help you navigate.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Red Rocks Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
