Confirmed from Rice City Pond's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Great spot for a reasonable hike a d beautiful view down Blackstone Valley.”

The Rice City side of the river has a nice little riverside path that gets you to a great vantage point up and down river in just a few minutes. Plenty of feathered friends in the water and overhead. For a slightly more strenuous visit, you can take the trail to Lookout Rock.

★★★★★ — Robert , Feb 2023

Great walk, super easy going up. On our way down it was a bit steep cause of the rain so the path got wider and deeper so be careful going down. The view is awesome 🤩 you can sit on the rocks and just take it all in. Worth it!

Beautiful place for a picnic, hike, or paddle. Very clean and peaceful. I will definitely return with my kayak. Park at the medical center. Short portage to the water. Paddle under the bridge to enter the pond.

Great trails on Blackstone river corridor. Tremendous vistas, bird life, rock formations. Also historic. The view from King Phillips rock of the pond and river below is a real stunner.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
