We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Rio Grande River Trail yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (30 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“This is a beautiful trail right on the Rio Grande in Albuquerque.”

Miles of walking or running trails that thread through and overlap with bike trail. Well maintained Several places where unhoused individuals struggle for shelter and sleep. To be expected as this is an issue throughout the city. Still safe and beautiful for walks and picnics.

This is a beautiful trail right on the Rio Grande in Albuquerque. It's great for bikes too!

★★★★★ — Tari , Apr 2019

An absolute gem right here in the middle of Albuquerque. Both paved and unpaved bike and walking paths galore. Plenty of flora and fauna, and an amazing sandy beach on the river. Mysterious winding paths and cool shade in the summer. A lifesaver! My dogs love it!

★★★★★ — Anna , Nov 2025

I enjoyed walking my chihuahua along the Rio Grande but the last time we went it looks like it overflowed and muddy on the trail so we didn't really get to walk but it was nice and cool.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
