Confirmed from River Oaks Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about River Oaks Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (161 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Super nice place to go and take in the scenery of the Kern river, beautiful skies and definitely can't forget the sunsets.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“The generally quiet environment lets you sit down and relax for long periods of time without worrying about anybody bothering you.”

This is a great park to go for a walk. It is always so peaceful and very kept up. One of Bakersfields best kept secrets in my opinion.

★★★★★ — John , Feb 2022

A nice park on near the Kern River, in between Stockdale Bridge and Allen Road Bridge. It has a children's play area to the South West, a sidewalk course for walking and of course the bike/running path and some dirt trails along Kern River. Water is available at this park at several locations.

★★★★☆ — Charles , Nov 2018

It's not a common sight to see water in the kern river going through Bakersfield, but 2023 is the year. This is an enjoyable park. Trails to walk, river banks to look at the river, children play grounds for kids, as well as close to restaurants in nearby shopping center

★★★★☆ — M , Jul 2023

It's a very nice park close to a lot of residents. The bike path nearby means that there is easy access to Riverwalk Park, and if you please, the Truxton offices further down. The generally quiet environment lets you sit down and relax for long periods of time without worrying about anybody bothering you.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
