Confirmed from Rockfish Gap Entrance Station's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 18 mentions

“Great views from the outlook points, the roadside stand should have available maps for people to use for car travel.”

I love Rockfish Gap!! This is where the AT, Skyline Drive, and the Blue Ridge Parkway all meet. It also marks the end of Central Virginia and the beginning of the Shenandoah National Park. Alot of awesomeness happening in a small area.

★★★★★ — William , Jun 2022

After finishing up vacation in Williamsburg Virginia, we drove west and decided to take the longer way home. We wanted to drive through Shenandoah national Park starting at the bottom and driving skyline Drive the whole way from tip to tip.

★★★★★ — Eric , Aug 2025

Great way to enter the south of Shenandoah National Park. Right off of I-64... The Skyline Drive follows the Blue Ridge North for 105 miles to the Front Royal entrance. The are lots of pullouts wirh great views and Side trails along with the Appalachian Trail.

★★★★★ — Mark , Oct 2022

Completed a 'run' twice now, from Front Royal to Thortons ... Beautiful on a clear day... And absolutely serene after a passing storm left the lushness glistening

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
