Confirmed from Rocky Gap Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Rocky Gap Park
“I stopped just briefly but it was absolutely gorgeous and super clean!”
“Beautiful sandy beach, free parking, easily accessible path to the beach and water.”
Found this beach gem on a fall girls’ weekend. Easy parking, great sand and really beautiful rocks! We found a neat teepee structure along the beach and had fun walking up and down while the waves crashed. Definitely will try it out in the summer on our next visit!
While traveling south from South Haven, Michigan to St. Joesph, Michigan, this pullover along the Blue Star Highway is a nice and quiet place to picnic or take a walk along the shore of Lake Michigan. It has lots of very interesting rocks...hence the name☺️
What a pleasant surprise! This piece of shoreline feels *almost* like up north, but close to Kalamazoo. I was able to knock out a walk to the lighthouse from here. The sun came out to bless me & the rocks did not disappoint.
My favorite stop during our vacation. Short walk ( ramp) down to the beach. Had sand and rocks at the water line. We found so many cool rocks and even some sea glass. There were some areas of shade at the Dune line which was nice.
Trail conditions & character
“During peak season parking can be tough to find but it’s always amazing to hang at the beach in the sand, water or even if your glass/rock hunting.”
“Overlooking Lake Michigan from a bluff in Benton Harbor Township, Rocky Gap County Park provides a wonderful place to enjoy the Lake Michigan shoreline.”
“If you have a passion for collecting colorful rocks, beach glass, and intricate fossils, or perhaps want to avoid a crowd Rocky Gap is for you.”
“Restrooms are only open seasonally though, and most of the local gas stations don't allow public use.”
“Signs are posted that dogs are not allowed, however there were dogs on the beach both times that we were there.”
“Beautiful sandy beach, free parking, easily accessible path to the beach and water.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
