Confirmed from Root Glen's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Root Glen is a unique arboretum and great place for a walk located on the campus of Hamilton College. Root Glen was developed by the Root family beginning in 1850 and maintained by the same family for three generations. What can be seen here today is the result of years of work and planning.

Love this place for peace and quiet, birdwatching, and the beautiful flower gardens. There are a few steep hills on the trail that could be a challenge for those with handicaps or mobility issues. The new labyrinth in gorgeous.

While being surprised that there was nobody on these trails when I visited, I also couldnt believe that I have never been here before or have not heard of it. Bridges, trees and flowers were not lacking. There are 65 species of trees here with each having a foot note and label for people to enjoy.

Gorgeous!!! The parking is easy. Walking the path is also very easy- mostly flat, a few slopes, nothing strenuous. The woods are majestic. The labels, helpful. Very quiet and serene. Relaxing and peaceful walk in the woods- not roots to trip over or rocks to step over. It truly is a little piece of paradise.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
