Confirmed from Salt Lick Point and Water Reserve Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Salt Lick Point and Water Reserve Trailhead
“You end up on parts of al three trails, but get the great views and end up where you started.”
I always start to the right of the parking lot at the bottom of the trail. You get the steep incline first and the easy part of the walk at the end. My tip is to keep to the left at all times. You end up on parts of al three trails, but get the great views and end up where you started.
Nice place to hike. I didn't realize there were 2 locations to enter. We entered where the church is. Apparently, the other entrance saves you time and is closer to the Bluff hill where you can see all of the city and river. Amazing view. Be careful climbing the Bluff.
Beautiful! Flat wooded path for a more casual hike.. we take our dogs and they love it! Bluffs, cave openings, thick woods and peace. The other path is much steeper and more of a cardio workout, hilly and challenging, but the scenery looking out is fabulous! Best of both. Worth the drive!
As a resident of Valmeyer and I have been hiking this trail all my life I can say for sure it is great for ether a casual hike or a workout out but the workout is worth it for the views
