Confirmed from Salter Grove Memorial Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Riverfront park with benches, a breakwater, a boat launch, a small playground & picturesque views.
What runners say about Salter Grove Memorial Park
“It has a parking lot, playground, picnic tables, trails, and is well maintained.”
“Following the pathway south will take you to Rock Island, where you can find some cool graffiti and beautiful views of the bay.”
One of the more interesting parks I’ve been to in RI, Salter Grove is a great place to explore. Near the parking lot, there is a playground for kids, a sign commemorating the Gaspee Affair (an obscure but fascinating piece of US history), and a short trail through the woods and towards the shore.
Beautiful area to take a walk, go fishing, have a picnic, take photos or just enjoy the day. There’s a large, free parking area next to a little park. If you take the rock trail on the left (in the parking lot) but to the right of the water it will take you towards the huge rock wall/jetty. 🌊☀️😎✌🏼
This is a nice park right on the ocean. They have a jetty that you can walk out on top enjoy the views and the ocean breeze. There is a porta potty and a parking lot too.
Great place to take a walk on the jetty and see some wildlife. We often see herons, cormorants, and swans here. Beautiful views of the bay.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
