Confirmed from Sampson Mountain Wilderness Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Our family still owns the Cabin and the plot of surrounding land, but we love that it's become a quiet spot for rest and reflection for hikers who love this beautiful area.”

Great hike, beautiful creeks and waterfalls! If anyone finds a child's knife on turkey pen loop with the name Vander please look us up!
It literally is a piece of heaven on earth...Atleast for me. You're immersed in a natural butterfly garden with hummingbirds flitting all around and bees humming and butterflies collecting nectar.
For anyone curious about the Cabin - my granddaddy built it long ago. Our family still owns the Cabin and the plot of surrounding land, but we love that it's become a quiet spot for rest and reflection for hikers who love this beautiful area.
Hiking in Samson Mountain is a different way of experiencing the wilderness. There are very few people who hike in the area and so there is absolute quiet time from sounds of civilization in this area of little development. The animals are happy and thriving in Sampson.

“Nice trail to hike but come prepared to get muddy and walk thru water.”

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
