Confirmed from San Elijo Lagoon and Ecological Reserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Nature reserve with 7 miles of trails plus a visitor center with exhibits overlooking the lagoon.

This is an excellent informational center adjacent to San Elijo lagoon. There are well maintained and easy trails through the lagoon that allows beautiful views of the marsh and the birds that frequent the area. We were here on a weekday and thus the visitor traffic was minimal.
Museum, elevator to observation deck, gorgeous bridges take you above the waterways, we saw a great blue heron, egrets and even a rail. Bathrooms are ADA accessible and the trails near the Visitor's Center are walker friendly. Free parking across the street. Then there is a tortoise to welcome you.
A peaceful yet fascinating journey through a vibrant nature reserve. The area is full of life- you’ll spot a wide variety of plants, birds, and other wildlife. Many people come here to hike with their dogs, enjoying the scenic trails.
A place to give yourself a light walk exercise surrounded by a lagoon view and some birds watching. The visitor center staff was also friendly enough to engage with some questions you have. Well, on any given days, I mean warmer days, it’s a nice place to spend an hour or two.
