Confirmed from San Juan Rapids' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
River where kayaking and rafting are common, flanked by trails and beaches.
What runners say about San Juan Rapids
“Beautiful spot still ain't ever caught a damn fish here but it's a great hike and bird watching place to hang.”
Tubing and paddling safety. We have worked the San Juan Rapids on occasion for water safety and the best advice I can give ‘floaters’ is to wear a USCG approved properly sized and fitted lifejacket for drowning prevention.
Awesome trail, with great sight seeing. River access view is more curvy and bumpy but worth it. So many trails going from inside the forest to river. Would love to take again but in early morning as during afternoon is hot
San Juan rapids are running pretty low today. There are fish fry and tadpoles in the shallows and puddles on the clay banks.
A lot of fun. The highlight of the float. But be prepared and be careful. Go left for the easier and safer route if you want to avoid the rocks/ rapids.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
