Confirmed from Sand Hollow State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Red sandstone park offering boating in a reservoir & off-highway vehicle riding on Sand Mountain.
What runners say about Sand Hollow State Park
“Looks like an ocean in the middle of the hot desert very unique place the sand is red and fine making a beautiful contrast with the blue water.”
“I just wish they would have more benches, but besides that it's super calm and relaxing.”
Epic riding spot! Make sure your tags and flags are ready before you go. The trails are intense—the rocks meet the sand in the best way, so you get a little bit of everything. Paddle tires make the dunes a total blast, though they do get shredded on the rocky sections, so having a backup set of dirt tires is smart.
First time there. Must get there early and make sure you have sneakers. The sand is like walking through the pits of hell. This was a solo trip with my dog and it was hard. The park itself is amazing! If you’re opposite from the beach side, you can set up right next to or on the rocks and it’s just beautiful.
Gorgeous underrated place!!! It was raining so I didn’t get to check out the lava tubes however the petrified dunes were so much fun to hike around. It’s easy to get lost so make sure you keep an eye on the compass 😂
We stayed four nights in the Westside Campground. Very clean, well laid out park. We had site 32, a spacious pull thru, however, being on the left side of a one-way street meant that our door opened to the street which was kind of a bummer. Luckily the street was not very busy.
Trail conditions & character

- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
