Confirmed from Shadow Lake's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Family-friendly venue featuring a lake for fishing, a trail, and picnic tables.
What runners say about Shadow Lake
“Beautiful spot for an easy quick walk or some fishing.”
I find shadow lake so welcoming. I often come here for fishing get nothing but Bluegill. It has picnic area, one can go hiking, fishing and many more even though it’s not really big area.
This lake is a small lake best suited for fishing. There is plenty of seating at the beginning but as you get around to the back of the lake it's just mainly spots for fishing. The whole length around the lake is 0.6 of a mile. It is a stone/ dirt trail.
Walk on the deck over the pond. Stop to look at the wildlife. Then, walk around the pond slowly and enjoy the lovely views. It’s beautiful all year. Hiking, fishing, and picnic are the nice place to go with family or friends. Delightful!
The Metropark sign lists this place Shadow Lake not Sunset Pond. Look for the Blue Blazes of the Buckeye Trail, a 1440 mile trail that circles Ohio.

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
