Confirmed from Shoup-Parsons Woods Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Nice Elkhart County park hidden away from the town with trails to hike and enjoy views of the Elkhart River and the Dam. Parking area, restrooms and benches. Lots of bird singing and great any time of the year.

★★★★★ — Ricardo , May 2022

Parking is limited, but it is a clean and scenic place to hang out and fish. Water was clear and there are plenty of trails to navigate. The park was easy to find and we had no trouble getting in our out of the river to wade for smallmouth and pike.

★★★★☆ — Ben , May 2025

Beautiful trail following the millrace. Lots of fall colors and plenty of wildlife to see and enjoy, ducks and geese, herons, swans and muskrats. I have seen an American bald eagle a few times but it's rare.

★★★★★ — Larry , Oct 2020

Such a beautiful place to visit especially if your into nature. Great trails next to the river.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Shoup-Parsons Woods Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
