Confirmed from Smith Vocational Agricultural Fields' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Smith Vocational Agricultural Fields

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (39 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“The Mecca of dog "parks" which is really a beautiful stretch of trails, access to water for pups who love to swim.”

🏃 great for running 2 mentions

“Great dog park! My Trixie loves running around there off leash.”

It's one of the best dog parks I've ever been to. Great trails and fields where dogs can go off leash. Access to water as well. If you don't like off-leash dogs, don't come here as most are off-leash and friendly.

★★★★★ — Peter , Dec 2023

Beautiful place to walk. Right next to Northampton dog park. Watch out for 🐻 bears.

★★★★★ — Jessica , Oct 2021

The unofficial dog park of Northampton, my partner and I call it doggie heaven. A wooded walk that spans 2-3 miles doing the full loop, you will encounter off leash dogs all over.

★★★★★ — Lyle , Oct 2022

This is "The Northampton Dog Park." It is also a working crop field. There is a dirt parking lot and easily-accessible and clear trails. There is a lovely accessible stream for humans and dogs. The people and dogs are generally friendly and helpful. Relaxing and beautiful, expect lots of mud.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 57 mentions

“Okay, listen up humans: I padded into Smith Professional Agriculture with my tail high, nose twitching, and no leash dragging me down.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
