Confirmed from South Buena Vista Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about South Buena Vista Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (389 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“There is water for the dogs to drink, poop bags, and pathways to walk amongst beautiful trees and plants.”

🌳 shaded & cool 4 mentions

“The trail is mostly shady & is a lit cooler then hiking in the sun.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 7 mentions

“My dog loves to find his way there every time so watch for this if you don’t want a stinky dog.”

A true dog park in every sense. From the water fountains to the simple fact that the only ones fenced in are the human kids! Lots of places to sit and watch your dog play with others freely. Tons of shade. A half court basketball court seems extra but the what make this place great are the trails!

★★★★★ — Chris , Jan 2025

Great park with grass areas, picnic tables (no bbqs), basketball 1/2 court, playground with swings, slides, & climbing equipment. Looped concrete trail that is approximately 1/3 mile. There are dirt paths off main trail to explore more. The trail is mostly shady & is a lit cooler then hiking in the sun.

★★★★☆ — Jack , Jul 2025

This is a really great park to take your dogs off-leash. There is a small concrete loop pathway around the entire park that is not long but great for strollers. I have an older 14+ year old dog that I push in a stroller while the 2 year old pup runs around like a youngster so the concrete pathway is super nice to have.

★★★★★ — Aaron , Mar 2024

We're hooked! Found this place just recently. First time there, nice dogs and owners invited us to "walk the loop" with them. Mostly big dogs (ours is small), that are friendly and/or tolerant of little ones.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 52 mentions

“It is hidden just of the road and a nice oasis from the industrial Park just near by It's one of the only places you can have your dog off a leash.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadwater — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
