Confirmed from South Whidbey State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Bayfront park with sandy beaches, mountain & sea views, & secluded campsites amid old-growth forest.
What runners say about South Whidbey State Park
“The beaches are beautiful and the foresty areas are breathtaking.”
“Peaceful place to take the whole family.”
Great state park with hikes to 500 year old tree, lookout vista of the ocean, and lots of fern covered forest. Use a Discover Pass or pay at the gate to enter this cute park with a variety of tails for any level. The trails are not accessible (hilly, not smooth, minimal Braille translation, etc.
Nice selection of trails and beach front. Leashed-pet friendly but no bark ranger program. The stairs to the beach are temporarily unavailable, but they’ve installed some rope to help guide hikers from the trail to the beach. Nice area for a short visit.
Went here for the first time last weekend. Plenty of trails which lead to scenic outlooks on the water. Can see the mountains pretty well and the plant life in the woods themselves are impressive and diverse.
We planned for Olympic national park but luckily we had friends who stay in Green bank. They showed us these woods and went for a short hike. It's was really a great experience and my 5 year old did enjoyed the woods.

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
