WOW! I've wanted to do this trail for awhile now. We were able to do it today. My heart felt something while at the top. What a great memorial for these heros. Hug a Fireman!
50+ yo female. Have done the trail several times. Does feel like it gets harder with age and changing topography. The re-growth is lovely. Demonstrates what the firefighters fought through and how they could have succumbed to the mountain.
We hiked right after the first snowfall. The trail was wet and muddy. It’s all uphill, but I wouldn’t say it was hard to get up. It was cloudy and we didn’t get great views from the top. Having said all that, I really enjoyed this hike and even with bad weather, the views were gorgeous.
Had wanted to do this trail for awhile as Wildland firefighting was part of my duties in another lifetime. Its not a very long hike but a decent amount of elevation gain. Take the time to read the interpretive signs as they do a great job explaining the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy.
