Confirmed from Suffern - Bear Mountain Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking area with kid-friendly trails, plus rocks, BBQ facilities, and a train.
What runners say about Suffern - Bear Mountain Trailhead
“Very rocky and slippery today but it has great view and we can also see NYC on the horizon”
First I want to start off with, definitely download the map. We hiked in the wrong direction for a while and had to start over. It's a really amazing hike, pretty intense start but it evens out after the incline. Lots of prickly bushes and vines so be aware of that.
The trail head is not easy to see if you are driving by. But there is the train station and other parking lots close by. The trail is 4 miles length to the first junction, with the Kakiat trail. From there still pending to hike, but it looks it is for a small thru-hike, a litle more than 20 miles.
Very steep climb right away. Scramble-ish. Loooong trail. Some views early. Blazes clearly mark the trail. I parked in the municipal train lot across the street for free on the weekend. Fink’s BBQ (good, fun) a few steps away from trail head.
An easy climb up. I though climbed from the next spot which didn’t have a trail and lost my way on descend but it was fun.
