We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Sugar River Trail, ORV Trailhead yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Nice quiet trail don't see many people on it just got to watch out for the people on dirt bikes and ATVs.”

I've been riding on this trail for about seven years now. I usually take a buddy with me so two atvs total. A nice scenic ride near the river and the covered bridges are worth the trip. One of my favorite places to ride. Looking forward to going again soon.

Smooth and enjoyable trail from Claremont to Newport, 11 miles each way. Parking lots at both ends of the trail. Some spots in between for parking. Atv, mini bikes, bicycles and walkers share the trail. Mostly shaded trail with many bridges along the way. Beautiful scenery since the trail is clean and open.

Nice rail-trail path. It goes right by the Sugar River, with places to stop and cool your feet in the water!

★★★★☆ — Bill , Aug 2025

Scenic riverside rail trail, roughly 10 miles long. Only bad is that it just dead ends on both ends. Did not see any way to connect to the Cat hole road trail network, but it's still a pretty trail.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
