Confirmed from Sunset Rock State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
This conservation area surrounding Crescent Lake is popular for hiking in a backcountry setting.
What runners say about Sunset Rock State Park
“Blue-orange offers a moderately challenging hike option with a great viewpoint!”
“For a small state park, it's well-kept, scenic, well-marked trails.”
This is a nice place to go to hike, and fish. There's not much that I've seen for picnicking. The trails could be kept up better. It would be a huge improvement to have board walks over muddy marshy places. As it is, it is very tricky to get through these spots.
Nice place to hang out by the lake, or take a walk through the woods. Blue-orange offers a moderately challenging hike option with a great viewpoint!
Its a small park not alot to see unless you hike the trails. My home is 1mile over the mountain. There ARE bear, coyote, fox, deer, rabbit, squirrels, groundhogs, chipmunk and some have spotted a Bobcat. We saw the bear just 2 days ago crossing past our back yard. No cubs. Hunters stay out!
Parking lot for this area. Very muddy and wet. Watched a sunset view from the top of Crescent Lake. Definitely a Easy to moderate hike. There is fishing 🎣 here and it's a great spot to hike and relax or walk the dog.

“I would suggest to stay on the lower section for fast and flowy or add in the upper section only if you want some technical ,sometimes frustrating, riding .”
“For a small state park, it's well-kept, scenic, well-marked trails.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
