Confirmed from Surprise Community Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Popular park with a fishing pond, gazebos & BBQ grills, plus a playground & paved walking path.
What runners say about Surprise Community Park
“I thoroughly enjoy strolling around the large pound, which is always clean and well-maintained.”
“Beautiful big playground, fishing lake with a nice walking path all around it, lots of covered pavilions with picnic tables, a dog park.”
I visited The Surprise Community Park to take my Miniature Schnauzer to the Dog Park. They have a place for small dogs and a place for large dogs so you can really enjoy the experience. This area is newly renovated. Both areas have beautiful soft grass so the dogs can run and enjoy the open space.
A quaint oasis with a little of everything. A small dog park and a big dog park. Sand volleyball court and an outdoor basketball court. There is a playground, picnic tables and benches for those who want to just water the ducks. Fishing and a walking trail around the small lake.
This is a bit of a drive from where I live in az. However, I happen to be at this park for the lantern festival and it did not disappoint. The park is huge with lots of parking space. It's got tennis courts, a basketball court, and a huge pond with mini water fountains in the middle.
The Surprise Community Park has become a “must do” for our family each time we visit family in Surprise. Very clean. Constantly updated and maintained equipment. Walking paths. Dog area. People fishing. Plenty of tables and benches. Pickle Ball Courts. Clean bathrooms. Great place to take family and friends.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
