Confirmed from Swords Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 12 mentions

“Great views some interesting information about Yellowstone Kelly, biking and walking paths too, short scenic drive if not able to walk.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“A great place to walk or run for all ages.”

Got a few hour layover??? Definitely a awesome hike to stretch them legs before, during or after a flight. Heading east on the path will take you to a couple historical sites with a pretty clean restroom.

A great place to walk The Rimrocks and see the views over Billings. Can be a bit breezy, but the sights are worth pulling on a jacket if necessary. A good bike/hike trail parallels the Rim. Make sure to drive or walk to the Yellowstone Kelly memorial - it is worth the time.

I love walking my dogs here. The view and the trails give you a very nice venue. Paved or in the rough along the rim. It has its problems, broken bottles, and bad dog owners that don't clean up, but overall, my furry family and I love the area.

★★★★★ — Dane , Mar 2026

Swords Park is a beautiful destination for anyone who enjoys nature, scenic views, and outdoor recreation. The walking and biking trails provide plenty of opportunities to explore, while the wide-open spaces and panoramic views make it a perfect place to relax and take in the surroundings.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
