Confirmed from Taum Sauk Mountain State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Taum Sauk Mountain State Park
“We began this rugged hike full of mud and water and the beautiful view and sound of the rushing crystal water .”
We're big fans of the Ozark trail and this is one of our favorite mtn range trail heads to hit. It's rugged, beautiful, and one of the most sense of accomplishment trails to hike. Go towards the devils tollgate and get some great scenic pictures along the way. Many water sources if you need, but always always boil.
Taum Sauk Mountain SP became #39 on the list of Missouri state parks that I've visited, and it brought Buddy's tally to 17! We really enjoyed seeing the 74 year old lookout tower, but there's no way Buddy would've climbed that sucker! He hates open riser stairs, and my back wasn't up for climbing up there.
This is a great little state park up in the Saint Francois Mountains. The park has no entry fee and is open for day use from sunrise to sunset. A small number of campsites are available for a nightly fee. Campsites are only available walk-up and can't be reserved in advance.
It was a nice park. Trails were a bit steep and rocky and at times not marked well but it was pretty, and a nice hike. My biggest problem was Google directions. Phone service is spotty in the area and Google maps took me to Johnson's shut-in and told me I had arrived at Taum Sauk State park.
