We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of The Payson P yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about The Payson P
“Beautiful view, but be aware of Jumping Cactus's cause there's a lot in some places!”
Fun little hike. Kind of steep. A little loose rock right near the P, but this is a low-stress hike just about anyone could do.
This is a great little mountain/hill with a great view of the surrounding areas. There are lots of trails to get to the top. The trail that goes up the front is very steep and is less enjoyable than the easier trail that goes up the back of the P.
Hiked this Hill for a school thing we did, pretty fun! There isn't an actual trail if you just hike in a straight line from the bottom, but there is a short dirt path. Steep climb and lots of Loose rocks. Beautiful view, but be aware of Jumping Cactus's cause there's a lot in some places!
It took me (a professional hiker) a little under 5 minutes to get all the way up (i climbed)
