Confirmed from Token Creek Dog Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Token Creek Dog Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (115 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 8 mentions

“It’s clear the park is very well maintained, and the layout gives dogs lots of room to explore and socialize without feeling crowded.”

🌳 shaded & cool 5 mentions

“Lots of trails, some with shade for those hot summer days.”

This great open space has a large area for all sized dogs and a separate area for small dogs only. Atop the all access area is a mound of a nice seated area surrounded by an outer trail that leads onto the mound from 3 different directions. The outermost trails go through the edges of the park in the tree line.

Beautiful big park. Lots of room to run. Walk up the hill and there are benches to sit on and oversee the whole park.

It's better than the Sun Prairie dog park. If I feel like driving I'd go to the Jefferson County Dog Park but Token Creek is fine. Not much shade besides the border areas.

Really nice park. I like to park on Anderson and walk through the forest trail versus drive through the park area to the parking lot (5-10 mins through the park at 15mph with a load of speed humps and still a little trail from parking lot to park) It’s huge with shaded forest trails and more open ones.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 68 mentions

“I brought my dog on vacation with me to Madison (staying in DeForest) and was extraordinarily surprised to find not only a dog park open in January, but a dog park of such size!”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
