Confirmed from Tomlinson Run State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Family-friendly activities are available at this serene destination with forested hills & a stream.
What runners say about Tomlinson Run State Park
“The bathrooms must have been updated since we were here 5 years ago The shower room is very nice and kept clean all week The staff did have to hustle to clean up on the weekends.”
“Large beautiful park with plenty of well traveled trails of various elevation for all to see.”
“A really quiet state park in the northern panhandle of West Virginia~ Was fun to walk all the trails, take a picture by the swing, and have an overall good time.”
Booked site 43 for our first outing hauling our new camper . From the time we arrived and checked in we felt comfortable right away. The pleasant and helpful staff we talked to the whole weekend was just a bonus to how nice the campsites and surrounding areas where .
Did a little spontaneous road trip here from NE Ohio in search of the West Virginia swings. This was 1 of the 2 we found today, and they are not easy to find! So, I wanted to share where you can find the swing at this state park.
Camping sites are spread out nicely. Each has table and fire ring. Don't expect pavement at your site and expect to wiggle your unit into place if larger than 32'. Showers are OKAY at best. Roads are decently paved. Office staff has been outstanding. Hiking is beyond good. Site 16 is best, 17 is huge too.
Large beautiful park with plenty of well traveled trails of various elevation for all to see. Theres a lake with kayak rentals near the dam. Very picturesque and has a few historical sites left over on the dynamite trail

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
