Confirmed from Trailside Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (143 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“The merry go round is the only one I have found in the area, the skate park is clean and well maintained, and there is a good mix of different obstacles on the playground.”

🌳 shaded & cool 7 mentions

“This park has a small skate park, a big kid playground, a smaller kid slide area, swings, meet go round, picnic area, and lots of shade.”

👟 good for all levels 4 mentions

“Right next to the W&OD trail for easy walking and bike access from most of NW Herndon and SE Sterling.”

I really like this park. It's right off of Crestview, a sharp right turn from the right by the traffic light and a left turn after the pedestrian/bike path. Now, the parking lot is small, but it's not usually packed unless there are families having picnics.

Trailside Park has a great mix of activities available for all ages. There are swings for toddlers and larger humans, a separate toddler playground and taller one that is more appropriate for taller ones, plenty picnic tables, benches, several grills, water fountain, and even something appropriate to water your dog or…

Well-shaded park with recently upgraded play structures, a picnic shelter with charcoal grills, and a small skate park. Right next to the W&OD trail for easy walking and bike access from most of NW Herndon and SE Sterling.

Cool playgrounds. There is a skate park! I just spoke with someone who is doing repair work on it and he says that in the next couple of years they hope to double its size. That's pretty cool to hear. There is a gazebo and plenty of picnic tables and it has easy access to the WO& D trail.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
